since we are betting on it everyday - What is the UEFA CUP anyway?

what is the history of this Cup?

what does UEFA stand for?

How do you qualify for it?

how many teams are in it?

what is the format?

what level of teams are these?

when will the winner of the cup be known?

IS there a real Cup to win?

do they drink Milk if they win or get a bed of Roses?

It was introduced in 1971/1972. It is competed between the teams of different european national leagues. It is not the best teams that qualify but the "second tier" teams typically finishing about fifth or sixth in their domestic league.

It should not be confused with the UEFA Champions League which is competed between the top teams from different leagues in Europe. IMO the Champions League is the best soccer tournament (except the world cup) due to the level of parity and crowd interest between the top teams. The only competition with better parity and crowds is the NFL IMO.

The UEFA cup has controversially been expanded and "padded out" to a league format in recent seasons, basically to keep teams in it longer so they make more cash. This has detracted from the tournament IMO.

the cup of champions used to be a great cup, for all champs from baltic to mediterrean and from great britain to russia. today we have a champions league instead and it doesn't have the same ol charm like cup of champions used to have.

uefa cup was a lot better back then as well, with runner ups from england, france, germany, italy, spain, competing there, and not in champions league like now. it is a garbage competition now.
